How does Desogestrel work?
This contraceptive pill is a synthetic version of the female sex hormone progesterone. It works by thickening cervical mucus which makes it harder for sperm cells to get through to the uterus where they could fertilise an egg. It also prevents the egg from ‘ripening’. This means that most women who use Desogestrel will not release an egg from their ovaries.
